    Hi everyone,
I started talking about this deck in my presesentation thread, but I thought it would be better to create a thread for it.
So it is shurly not the best double deck but I like it. It is part of the Sony LBT-D505 stereo which I had new in 1991. I have to take some pictures, but here is what it looks like :
    image.jpeg
It is servo controlled and can not work in stand alone funktion because there are no in or outputs.
A couple of years ago it stopped working, it had 2 cassettes in it who wouldn't flip out anymore. So I tried to make it repair by a collegue but he didn't managed to do anything about it.
Since then it stayed like this for years as I didn't knew what to do.

But that changed 2 weeks ago, when I found a carton box full of cassettes in the garage
As I knew the deck was out of order I tried to find my Sony walkman DD11 to listen to these tapes, but no sound....
That was for me the sign that I had absolutly to repair my stuff.
So a research on internet got me to this forum for the walkman, and I found some other information about the belts from the deck who needed a replacement.

So after having ordered the wrong belt kit, I received today the new one, and this time the belts are the right ones

As the deck was already in pieces, I started direcly to replace the belts, which is very easy in fact. I've followed a tutorial on youtube which was about an other deck but with the same architecture and the same belts.

It took me half an hour to get everything cleaned and done. Then came the moment to test it, was a little nervous as it haven't been playing tapes for a loooonnnggg time.
So get it connected to the rest of the installation, opened the door of the A deck and putted a cassette in it............pushed the play button.........and then...........A MIRACLE........it works, and everything works even on the B deck

After that, I also fixed the windows from the 2 doors and the center window who with the heat and the years fell down. As Mister X suggested it, I've been using a heating gun to heat them slowely up and put them in place. It worked very good as you can see on this door :

I've found this forum whilst repairing a comptley non functional Sony TC-D505 tape deck.
This unit is currently in repair at the Rushmoor Repair Cafe (UK)- www.rushmoorrepaircafe.org - a non profit organisation of which I'm one of the founder members.

I've managed to successfuly clean up both decks from the dreaded rubber goo (IMG_3231) and replaced the belts with a kit from - www.webspareparts.com - so now both decks are running and playing. However I have one problem with deck A (left ?) which will not auto reverse.
I've traced the problem to a split gear on the head reverser (IMG_3266) so the gears don't mesh properly. If carefully "assisted" it will swap over and play but it jams in normal operation and so will only play in reverse.

Does anyone know if this part is available ?, I presume it will be the complete head assembly.
From the Sony technical manual the part # for deck A is I think, A-2003-418-A or possibly TCM-190RA12, the head assembly is different between the A & B decks, A= 4 wire, B= 6 wire.

Is this deck used in any other Sony products ? that might yield an alternative parts source.
    Many thanks.

i would try removing it and using epoxy of some sort to hold it back together first (something strong so it wont separate). probably the most straightforward and no harm in trying since its broken anyways.
option B is 3D printing, if you have one available and know how to model (or know someone who does). you would need the original to get a model made so id be cautious with the part if you try using glue of any sort to avoid damaging/breaking it and are considering it.
option C is a donor, which i found a list of models that part is present using sony encompass (id double check any before buying a donor)
    hope that helps somewhat

    Thanks Squiggly.
    That Encompass link blocks me.
Option A (glueing) is currently not feasable, its Nylon which is notoriously difficult to glue, especially in such a small part.
The assembly (img_3266) is a riveted construction, disassembly would destroy that, and as its basically working I won't go that route, yet, as the system is not mine.
Option B (printing) I can do, I have a 3D CAD (IronCad) and printer, well versed in design not so much in printing, however like Option A printing a replacement would need destructive dis-assembly first unless a model can be found.
Option C is currently the best least destructive route hence does anyone know if the tape base unit is/was used elsewhere and if I have the right part #.
