    Good day!
I am currently restoring the above-mentioned player, and as stat s, the volume is not working. The headphone out seem to be stacked at maximum volume. Turning the volume wheel decreases the volume, but only slightly. At minimum volume, the headphone out is still absurdly loud.

I have already replaced all SMS caps (except one) and checked for damaged traces. The volume potentiometer was also checked (at least I compared it's resistance values with those of a working player). I also flushed with alcohol with no success.

The line out of the player works fine, but it should not affected by the volume control. But at least I now the signal coming from the DAC is ok. Hence the problem has something to do with the volume potentiometer or the amp itself.

The only cap I have not replaced is one of the output capacitors which, on this player, sits tightly close to the headphone jack. However, I have checked the traces going below for continuity and they all seem fine. Also, I even of the cap is defective, why would it affect the volume level of both channels?

Finally, I removed the volume potentiometer and cleaned completely. The resistance values are ok. I have also checked the traces going from the potentiometer to the amp and they all seem fine.

I am out of ideas at this point. I have never seen such a problem in a player. Any ideas are appreciated!

    Hello,
I know that you have replaced all the SMD capacitors, but it is worth noting that this exact issue is caused by the C305 (47uf 4V SMD), which sits in between the two headphone capacitors. I have fixed many units with the same issue.
    Hope this helps!

    Hello and good day!

Thank you very much for the hint. I put the player aside since I wasn't able to fix the issue. The player also stopped reading CDs so I assume I have to check for damaged traces or perhaps a laser recalibration. But I have to check if I also replaced the cap you mentioned. It it's SMD I am almost positive that I did, but it might be a good idea to check if the traces below it are OK.

    Hello,
Damaged trace is highly unlikely on this model. It is the caps itself that go bad. Just wanted to say that on this model, adjusting any parameter other than the laser power and the tracking balance (RV502) (small movements and marking of original position), will make things worse, especially if the laser is original.
    Good luck!
