I recently replaced the center gear on my Sony WM-F5. Now, when I try to play, fast-forward, or rewind, it only runs for 2–3 seconds before stopping. I also noticed that the play/FF/rewind button stays engaged and doesn’t pop back up. I have oil and greased the parts as described and in Marian guide. I am thinking perhaps it might be related to the electrical side of the auto stop system. Any advice on how to troubleshoot or fix this would be appreciated.

Update: It turned out to be an issue with the electrical side of the auto-stop system. I fixed that and also replaced the volume potentiometer. The unit is now in perfect working order.

Great that it's working again. I think this is a really nice Walkman. The color and palm tree give it a wonderful beach holiday vibe.
