Hi everyone, Somehow I've run into a similar problem on two of my Walkmans after the usual gear service, cleaning and lubing. On the DC2, take-up torque repeatedly slips under any kind of load. Without a tape it runs very smoothly, but with a tape (and I've tried a few different ones) the take-up reel slips sporadically and causes the tape to jump inside the shell, which causes W&F to jump wildly. Watching the gears as this is happening, I can see the take-up gear slipping while the other gears keep turning smoothly. I've cleaned the magnetic surface of the gear and even tried it both with and without the thin little washer. I even tried swapping a gear from a different DD player. The behavior doesn't change. FF and REW work fine, torque is strong and it can fully wind C90 tapes. On the DD30 it's similar, but torque during play feels even weaker. It will play, then just stop turning at some point and allow tape to bunch up behind the pinch roller. Things I've ruled out: - idler thrust screw, adjusting this doesn't seem to help. Idler tires are new and the motor spindle is clean - reel hubs are firmly attached, no slipping there Has anyone found a fix for this kind of issue? Could it be that the magnets on these gears have weakened over time?
