Welcome and good luck with your repairs. The D5 is a higher-end unit and may need to be sent out for repairs depending on your skill-set. Some of the nicer models are worth expert fixing due to their value.
I agree, if it gets too much I'll find someone to look at it, but I think I'm close to having it working.
I've got a handful of similar but more chunky Marantz's (Superscope) and there's so much electronics packed in my eye's roll just thinking about pulling boards just to get to anything. Not much different than working on a newer car where you have to pull off an hours worth of plastic ducts and shrouds just to change the plugs.
I have a schematic for it, and it's actually not that bad in terms of the electronics. It's just the construction that makes it so challenging. I'm fairly new to the mechanics of these things too.
Here's the best beginner advice, get a JIS Screwdriver Set. The "Philips" Screws are slightly different, JIS Screwdrivers really bite into the head whereas philips will strip the head. https://stereo2go.com/forums/threads/are-you-using-the-right-screwdriver-for-your-walkman-deck.5343/
Thanks, I do already have a JIS screwdriver set for some other Japanese gear. They have proven very useful, but are a little hard to come by even in Japan now.
