Hi. I recently found Sony walkman professional wm-d3. When i first turned it on , it played for 3 minutes. I turned it off. When I turned it on again it played music, but only half of the volume. When i turned it off and on again it didn't play music. I could only hear a humming noise in my headphones. At first all buttons worked well, but after a while they started acting up. So, I decided to take it apart and see what is going on inside.i found out that center gear is broken and counter belt is melted. There may be more broken parts, which i can't see. One more thing i noticed is that record button was hard to press in. There is a slight misalignment inside which needs to be corrected. I wonder if it is worth fixing at this point. It is in really nice condition on the outside with carrying case and external microphone. Is there anyone on this forum who could fix it?
It is worth fixing, but preferably with someone with experience with a lot of patience. I repaired both WM-DD and WM-D3, and WM-D3 is much easier to repair even far easier than Toshiba KT-RS1. No wires needs needs to desolder, you have to remove the tapes holding up the wires and you can swing the board up. Be careful not to damage to potentiometer in the corner of the board, they are irreplaceable. The belt, flywheel tire, center gear must be replaced. The flyweheel tire maybe soft but they dont grip as good as the new ones. If the the rewind tape spool gear is cracked, you must replace it as well. Fix Your Audio have everything you need, including capacitors.
