My name is João Marcos, I’m currently living in Brazil, and I came across this community through my deep research into tapes and audio equipment. I’m 20 years old, and I’ve become absolutely fascinated by the cassettes, vinyl records, and recording gear that my father has been collecting and storing for over 40 years. I’m always searching for something specific as a hobby, and lately I have to admit I’ve been completely captivated by Madonna’s Blond Ambition Tour. Part of that comes from the fact that my father kept some recordings from the Madrid show in 1990 — he was actually there — and also because the tour itself is just incredible. If anyone has any recordings from any of those concerts, I’d be extremely interested. Anyway, I’m really looking forward to learning a lot from this forum.
My dad was friends with her family back in Bay City Michigan. He says she was a spitfire and would jump on the table and start singing and dancing at a very young age, I think he was helping out after her mom died. When I was a teenager I helped her uncle move, in addition to not paying me for a full days work, him and his wife grabbed Subway (sandwiches) and didn't get me one! I didn't know her but was working my connections hard when she came to town with the Beastie Boys trying to score sold-0ut tickets. There used to be several internet blogs with bootlegs, unfortunately my hard drive went bad with no backup. I've tried looking for URLs but haven't had any luck, sometimes they're still on archive.org with the MP3 files still on them.
Wow, that’s really interesting to hear — I love stories like that. That tour with the Beastie Boys was right at the very beginning of her career. And I’m sorry about the unpaid day of work — I’ve been through that too, and it’s the kind of thing you never really forget haha I’ll try to set aside some time to dig around the Internet Archive. There’s a lot of material there, but you really have to use different kinds of filters to find the rare stuff. Recently, I even found an old documentary about ancient Greece on the site. Thanks for sharing all this information! ion!
Now I know all my stuff is listening to me, a YouTube Video Recommendation had a David Lee Roth 1986 Interview wearing a Beastie Boys Shirt! The archive is nearly impossible to search, I get lucky after going through different "veins" of magazines and books but it can take a long time. Luckily I love doing research and looking through old magazines. Here's one cache of songs, I'm sure there's a lot more just on the storage side. The old website library is tougher unless you know the URL, I remember a ton of cool home made boombox websites in the early 2000's but it's impossible to find them now.
