Feel free to post your multiband portables, I've always loved the other bands and though boomboxes looked 10x better with more than AM/FM bands. The JVC RC-522 with nine delicious bands and the ultrapopular Sony CR-4800 with six bands but no FM. You have to love the grill cover, is that required? I should have put down a toy car to show the small size. The seven band Sony WM-5000 and the nine band baby-sized Sony ICF-SW20 which is pretty much the size of a cassette case. There is a sliding switch at the top that moves through the bands, you can kind of see the tiny red dot at the top 2nd position, too bad they didn't have more LEDs back then. The speaker looks like it's PE with some stamped in styling, pretty neat even with it's tiny size. I always check for batteries and the big Sony still had them and it works great, the speaker is in the back and has very nice sonics for it's size. The WA "Brick" Series was very expensive when new.
With the carrying case, nice! I only use the WA-8000 for an hour a year, and the Philips I plugged in once after purchase. A pity really, need to think about keeping them or not..
More is less when it comes to radios. The twelve band ICF-7601L on the left covers less frequencies than the cassette sized, two band ICF-SW1 on the right. Of course it helps that on that the AM band is 150 to 29995KHz. Back to the ICF-7601L I had to do a repair which led to me having to change the loudspeaker as when I removed the chassis the speaker basket came with it while the cone remained stuck to the front panel. Inside it is mechanically impressive with twin tuning capacitors both driven by anti-backlash gearing (two gears with a spring between them). Even the blue band indicator works using a weird rotating cylinder.
Here is the multi-band (2 ) ZX-7. I really like the dimensions of the power supply, they perfectly match the unit. Some portables accompany it, a radio needs friends too.
Emiel, I forgot to ask about that power brick, my unit has a normal looking 9v female jack, I think I have a normal wall-wart for it but don't remember, did they all come with that huge power brick?
Throwback photo from 2007 but yes I still have this one. The Sears Com Trek IX, I always loved these world radios not only for looks but it seemed like a cool hobby back in the 70's.
A recent purchase of mine. Although used, it came complete with the original box, which could double up as a shop window display stand back in the days when TV and Radio shops had windows. Radio Museum dates it to 1992. https://www.radiomuseum.org/r/philips_ae3405ae_340.html It counts as "Stereo2Go" as the FM is stereo when using headphones. As you can see in the last two photos it isn't that much bigger than a cassette. Two slight disappointments which have little to do with the radio itself. The one on Radio Museum is shown as being "Made in Hong Kong2 while mine is "Made in P.R.C.". I always associate Hong Kong with cool stuff I had as a child. Unless you live near Poland the LW band is now redundant in Europe, as the Radio 4 198KHz transmission shut down at the end of June. I remember when that frequency was Radio 2 and on a school coach trip we got great reception of it on the coach radio in the middle of Paris. Related to station AM close downs, tuning through MW this morning I could only pick up five stations. I thought one was foreign but it turned out to be Panjab Radio broadcasting from London. I'm surprised how good the signal was considering their transmitter is only 1kW so there isn't a problem with the radio.
