    Hi All,

I have just finished recapping my D-555. Now, if I play a cd and let it run from track 1 through the end of the disc, all works great. No skips and sounds amazing, but If I try to skip a track it starts to hunt around for focus for up to a minute. It usually will catch eventually and start playing. It also seems to have an easier time going to the next track, or back one, than if I try to skip 3 tracks ahead for example. I cleaned some old grease from the sled , but not sure what to try next. Thanks for any help !!!

Replace that "bad middle gear" even if it "looks ok". Clean the pin / shaft it is on thoroughly of old grease and hard residue. Use floss or fine thread to polish it up. Then put on the new gear with the correct plastic compatible grease like Labelle 106 with PTFE.

    If that doesn't do anything:

I would carefully mark the pots for tracking and... ugh.. forget even what the correct 2 pots that are safe to adjust were called! Mark them and make slight adjustments. I recall that these were on the lower board and were a nuisance to get to and tweak, close back up, test, repeat. Otherwise sounds like laser could be aged more likely.
