On the work bench the Sony D-5A player with one audio channel out, but with volume all the way up it suddenly burst to full volume, The culprit is the volume potentiometer. Basically one of the brushes came loose and not making a good contact. It can be glued back on but I don't want to take chances.

I found few on eBay but with all fees included it comes to over $30, Are there any other sources to get this particular form factor potentiometer at a reasonable price? The original part # for RV301 stereo volume potentiometer is 1-230-260-00 RES, VAR, CARBON 10K, marked on the part as DT103B.

I'm trying to order the potentiometer from this US seller but he keeps canceling my orders saying that this is for Sony cassette Walkman not suitable for the D-5A, but they look physically the same with same leg placement and design, Why would Sony makes two identical potentiometers with 2 or 3 mm difference in size, it doesn't make sense.

If the value is the same, it will work. The DD one looks identical to it. This potentiometer has been used in quite a few devices, it's likely it will work on this CD player.
Tell the seller you want to use it for a DD walkman if he doesn't want to sell otherwise.

He finally accepted the order after explaining to him what you've just said after doing some research this morning, To his credit the part # on the DD service manual is completely different than the one I mentioned above for the D-5A, But that doesn't mean anything. I will report back when I get the part.

The seller won't sell the part unless you want it for the right device. That's interesting, don't think I've ever seen a seller like this before.

Agree with the SONY part numbers, they had different part numbers for parts that are very simillar or maybe identical but with minor changes like being re-design, a different batch. So that part number tells little.

I found some on Aliexpress with higher shipping rates, Probably the same seller, Apparently some Toshiba Walkmans share the same part as well, I've also found a supplier who offers an improved version with metal shaft, Not sure how that insulates the left and right brushes though.
