Sorry, I was not sure quite where I should post this, but the Walkman section seems as good a place as any. This "off-brand Lego" set looks pretty cool! I will be interested to see a more detailed review when it is available, but I think it has entered my list of "must haves". Any thoughts?
I was looking around the website trying to figure out what their focus is, I guess neat little plastic toys and dioramas? The Mazinger Z is also interesting but sold out.
Aliexpress is probably a good place to find the Mazinger. You can also get an Astro Boy which has tempted me a few times! I have an official Lego 'Walkman' And another brand of the one in the video above, I think it's Jaki or something like that!
One of the stores that sells them here describes their style as "pop culture", I think that sums them up pretty well. I can honestly say I have never heard of Mazinga Z, not sure how that one got past me! That Astro Boy looks awesome. I have always been disappointed that I was unable to get a t-shirt with that same design that I saw on Nakamise Shopping Street because they didn't have my size! This might have to be my consolation prize.
Mazinger, Raideen The Brave, there are so many Japanese mecha robots! I have started collecting the Chogokin models and have quite a few now! Expensive but absolutely amazing! Have a look on Mandarake's website in Japan, huge choice!
Wow lupogtiboy, How cool is that I would love to have that students in the classroom where we work with legos would have a blast . Sincerely Richard
I just noticed they have a boombox set as well. Check out all the features it has in the video (linked in the picture)!
I kind of like the chunky looko of that boomer, It would be neat to see a working version of it. The transport is different with the keys down a step, I don't know if any real boombox ever did that. I missed the older postings, Mazinger Z showed up in our stores around 79, I think JC Penny had them? It was super rare to see them, or any of the robots, before Transformers blew the market up. I remember reading an early article in Thrasher or Transworld Skateboarding of a skateboard pro in Cali that had dozens of them, I started the hunt but it took 20 years to find my little metal guy and the three big plastic versions. Mine have been featured in many photos on this forum.
Interesting, I never thought of that. Maybe they asked AI to make a picture of a boombox that could be easily built with Lego bricks? Although I am guessing the reason was it was difficult to get the mechanism that opens the cassette door behind the movable tuning mechanism, although bringing that whole upper level forward seems like it would give enough room, without seeing how the tuning mechanism is actually built (gears would be more "Lego" correct, string would be more boombox correct)!
