I have the possibility to get one of this, don’t know the price yet. The item is untested (assume not working) and in quite decent condition. What are the known issues with this model? Any parts that breaks with time and do those have replacements? I only want to buy it if there is a reasonable chance to restore it to a good working condition.

I owned one when you could get them new in the shops, the original price was £199.95p. I can't remember if i had any major issues with it. If i remember correctly i think it had the same issue as the HS-JX101, HS-JX303, HS-JX505 and HS-JX707, which was at times when side a finishes and it start side b on the reverse side they will start playing at high speed. Since all the units i had did the same thing, i guess they must have all used the same program.

The only other thing with the Aiwa's are, they are notorious for having bad capacitors.

Thanks, bad capacitors is something I count on. I’m more concerned if there are plastic parts that break with age and have no replacements.

This model uses a 0ZM mechanism, so things like re-lubrication, bent pinch roller holding pins and bent head bridge are to be expected.
They're covered in post #41 (first on page 3) here: https://stereo2go.com/forums/threads/list-of-walkman-portable-recorders-common-problems.7535/page-3

Do count on bad capacitors also. Also note my capacitors list is generic, so do not take it as a reference for this model as they are different on different models.
No reason to worry about plastic parts that break on this mechanism.
