This unit was bought several years back, due to its run down condition I can only do restoration part by part. Earlier I have managed to done up the imbalance stereo cause by the selector switches and replace the foam for the passive radiator. Now after four years, it's time to work on the tape deck. It's indeed heavily used by the previous owner as I can tell by looking at the mechanism and the overall condition of the deck.

The play, fast forward and rewind not functioning due to the motor seizure. The pinch roller and tape head fail to engage as the push up mechanism was jammed. I have to tear down the whole system to service and lubricate every single parts.

Unit is successfully restored with full functionality on the tape deck, radio, line out and auxiliary. The selector switches working perfectly good with equal balance of the stereo sound both the left and right speakers.

Ken80s, how did you approach cleaning the selector switches? I am working on a PJ-33 that has similar mechanisms internally I suspect.

Each contact for the selector switches appears to be encased in plastic, meaning I can only use the precision tools in my DeoxIT survival kit to drop in single drops of contact cleaner.

What I am finding is that this results in the switches working well for a little while, after which the switches become intermittent again as they were when I first acquired the unit.

Any advice on how to properly clean the selector switch contacts would be much appreciated.

Hi Kcoul, first I use contact cleaner to spray into the selector at the same time switching the switches randomly to ensure the cleaning solution sip into the contacts. Do this several times at a certain interval until the corroded areas are well taken care off. After that I spray some silicon lube into the switches to protect and restore the conductivity of the contacts..

Repeat the steps in few days interval and the contacts will be fully restored..
