[GALLERY=media, 1173]Two DATs for the price of one by Farlander posted Nov 4, 2018 at 9:10 PM[/GALLERY]Seems my search for a DAT player has finally come through. While search on google I found a listing on this site called Reverb that had these two a tape and the charger for 80$. After a short talk with the seller it got down to 60$ for everything. The only thing now is to get them completely working, one stays on for a short time and the other doesn't quite come on at all, probably some kind of fuse. Either way I know I'll get em working, also if anyone has an idea on these problems I'd be grateful.
Whoops wrong "I found this" section, can't figure out how to move the post so if a mod can that would be great
Nice! That didn't take long. Post more photos when you get them and the model number. DAT's haven't been well represented on the forum probably due to lack of ownership. I have a full size component but haven't gotten a portable yet. Being a semi-professional machine I would think the power issue is something easy like a fuse or loose internal wire, unless it fell into a bucket of water.

But you make a good point about it probably being a fuse, the seller suggested the same thing. I actually managed to find the repair guide for this thing and despite the complexity of the mechanism, the circuitry is actually quite nicely laid out and easy to fix, you apparently can even change out basic thing like resistors with ease according to the manual. I might continue on with calling the radio stations just to check if they have a full sized one like yours, as these things usually only last about 4 hours on batteries haha. Also I just so happen to have a few more pictures from the listing, though they're not quite close enough to read the serial numbers.
Do these use the same drums that VHS machines use? If they do they tend to have a lot of tape fragments and a good cleaning with IPA and foam brushes will work wonders. I've gotten some of my equipment from stations, or friends that work at stations. Most of the time it's obsolete or really broken down. The Denon MD Player I got last year is still getting worked on when I have a time. Everything works except the tape eject doesn't work and the service manual is worthless.
From what I read in the manual, yeup it's a sitting image of a VHS system drum just compacted, so that could be part of the problem as well. Ah, I guess when those stations bought those thing they either, worked them completely to the last or let them sit for a long time. With how heavy a full deck is it would probably be good if I do find one locally. Also I checked out the pictures a bit closer and it seems in reality, one of these is a D7 and the other is a D8, the seller didn't know the difference and thought they are both the same.
