Whilst on a family trip to Athens I figured I'd drag myself away from the Parthenon and the leaning tower to meet a dear old friend. Who's this I see crossing the road? I arranged to meet our dear old friend Deech. Time was tight so we arranged to meet at his place of work in downtown Athena. Little to my knowledge he had dashed home after work to fetch these two boomboxes. But wait, there was more. He'd only gone and arranged the first and hopefully not last Athenian mini meet with fellow walkman aficionado Sotza. Now make no mistake, these are seriously nice guys. I was so humbled by Deech's hospitality and the effort he had gone to to make me feel welcome. We spent 3/4 hours discussing walkmans and boomboxes plus our own personal histories with these items. So much so, I blew the dust of my walkmans when I got home tonight. These guys might just have lit a light in me that had gone out a long tome ago. Enjoy these pics (Sotza seated, Deech right myself left). Sotza bought all he could on his motorbike whilste Deech appeared to have ran accross town with two large boomboxes. Checkout the WM-75 backpack.
Hi AO thanks for sharing these pictures. That backpack is the best one i have ever seen. Deech got the best work place, roomy and lots of table to get the repair done
Ah great stuff, a Euro mini meet. Nice to see you guys get together, looks like a great impromptu meet. Some lovely walkmans there and that Aiwa twin micro/regular cassette, now thats cool as hell. Good work all. Goose nice to see you on the boards again
Wow wow wow, three of my best friends on this site in just one shot (well, actually more than one) and a warning from Cris that reads "welcome" in my book! And then there are those beauties... Just wonderful! Spectacular selection of walkmans and bomboxes; that Wilco of yours is stunning Dimitris, & your anniversary Sonys are no less breathtaking dear "Sotza": btw did you know that that old nickname of yours means precisely "Sal"? Thumbs up guys -- it's great to see you mix up beer and boxes under the aegis of "Fischer"
Recipe for an S2G meet, you'll need : 1) A peripatetic (traveling) S2G member like A O to push the start button. 2) An S2G member like Deech to organize the meet in a way so it has soul. and 3) A WM-75 backpack to spice things up (totally optional!). What is planing Deech to do with his boombox collection in the near and not so near future?(a collection that has a mind boggling count even if they were walkmans). How to lift the screw taps from a wm-75 without damaging them ?(Thanks for the tip A O ,on Monday I'm going to find the tool !) A sound (pan intended) rhetoric question from A O why there is almost no discussion about music in S2G ? These are just a few of the subjects that were discussed and yes there was also some gossip but I won't tell you anything about that! Your only chance is to be present on the next meet! Now seriously ,if I didn't like music I wouldn't have liked walkmans and if I didn't like walkmans I wouldn't have met these two gentlemen, one from UK and the other from my hometown Athens. A O and Deech need no introduction from me but let me tell you that they are too deep in S2G and have passed the point of no return fortunately for the rest of us, it's just life that has so many and demanding aspects that you have to take breaks for shorter or longer periods. Dimitri and Chris thanks for a lovely evening, looking forward for the next meet! Sal we are coming !
Meeting up with the Legends ! Being a member of Stereo2Go began when i first read Pocketcalculator (for those of you not familiar here is the link) http://pocketcalculatorshow.com/boombox/ I strongly suggest every new member you read this site till the last bit to understand where it all began to make sense and gather all this community that we have today on both boombox-walkman sites. Simple as that pocketcalculator was the beginning of the new internet era collecting portable electronic units. Stereo2Go was its chat site which gathered ''geeks'' like us to discuss about their passion. One of the founding and most precious members back from 1998 is Cris (AO). I have no words to praise this guy enough ! He messaged me 2 weeks ago to tell me that he was coming to Athens with his family and we arranged a small meeting along with Sotiris (Sotza- Machaneus). Now with Sotiris we have met before and i cant tell you what a diamond guy he is and maybe the biggest collector of walkmans in Europe with technical knowledge too. About Cris i was so excited to finally meet a brother from abroad and when i met him i felt like i ve known him for years! He is truly a Legend I didnt have the time to arrange something more special but this is a promise for our next meeting ! We even talked about politics about our favourite machines, about music, our lives, about other Legendary members too and we could have stayed all night if Cris wouldntbe on that morning flight back home.Mihai from Romania greeted us in real time too. Now Happy birhtday Cris a big warm welcome back to S2GO a big welcome back to our hobby , this site needs you and you know it !! Sal the warning is still valid we are coming your way when your exhibition will take place Plus we are planning to come to Manchester this coming MAY 2018.
Deech is a legend. My walkman/boombox eveneing last week in dusty old Athens was something I will remember for ever. This felt like an old family meeting. These are the things I miss from this community.
