Chaps As part of our Analogue October mission, we are now deep in conversation with a manufacturer with a view to creating all new DD leather cases, with all the trimmings, out of some gorgeous leather. The plan is to roll out the most common shape first, that being the case for the DC-2 type bodies. The window will be open (no clear plastic), to show of the iconic DD controls. The lower right hand corner will be embossed There will be no Sony or Walkman branding associated with the design. Its an exciting time for DD owners, especially given three factors. Their rarity Their increasing value The fact that a solid solution for the gear now seems to be taking shape With that in mind, Im fairly confident that users will want to be seen with their units, but protected in a practical yet luxurious way. The cases that originally shipped with the DD units range from pretty basic and flimsy to the higher quality of the DC-2 case. But even that has not aged well, mine included. We are still looking at the price point, but I want to gauge interest here. The greater the volume required, the more agreeable the price point will be. Let me know your thoughts.
I'm definitely interested. Maybe a model with a large cutout for the side controls so that it will fit other DD models?
If the DC2 version sells well then yes, very possible. The first batch will be a run of 20. The pattern drawings are underway at the factory and even that's not a cheap exercise. But it's happening and will be announced in the new year with regards to ordering details.
that looks great. I suggest you to edit your post and add a poll. It's probably the best way to get what you want. Just edit it and look at the bottom options: there you'll find it.
Sadly, these are the only options available on EDIT Options: Watch this thread... and receive email notifications

works for me.... I just got the party started with my own preferences ;-) By the way, this is happening. Already paid the factory to get the cutting patterns prepped for the DD case. So when we have a pre production same in hand, I will of course be sharing the results with you. This was all brought about because I want to be able to protect my prized DD units when in use as well as when stored. Finding someone to make just one, to the standards that I would want proved tiresome... Then I realised that im not the only DD user out there, and many of you would probably want to add a quality case to your collection that was faithful to the original design, but substantially better at the same time. Anyway... expect some movement on this in the new year once the factory has returned after the break. C PS: Thanks for sorting out the poll.
I think this is a great idea and there should be plenty of interest. Using these items benefits them in a mechanical sense but not in a physical sense, a smart case will remove the fear of taking them out and gettings scratched in bags and pockets etc. Good on ya C for getting this underway.
Interesting but I already had 2 made some years back. I just went to my local shoe menders as I have a good relationship with them I asked them to make me one, Now I have 2 in brown leather. When I get a chance I’ll tape a picture and post it.
looks functional. Hopefully we can lure you in with our version Ill be posting updates in the new year once the factory have supplied the first sample
Hey chaps I thought I would give you an update on the project and some of the steps involved. The first part of the project was to find the vendor. I wanted to keep production in the UK, as oppossed to outsource to overseas. After a few dead ends (all due to the limited number required), I found a vendor who was willing to help. Once sorted, the first part is to draw up 2D plans. Those plans, along with an original case get sent to the factory and a quote is generated. The quote is in two parts. First for the production of three samples, and then for the run, pending refinement requests based on the samples. Im currently in Cape Town on another film, but just had a few images of the first samples for me to comment on. I wont actually have my hands on the samples until I return in Feb, but the pictures have given me a good indication as to where the project is headed. Granted, these pics are clearly taken with a flash, and as we all know, thats not always the best thing to do. But Ive sent back a few comments already based on the pics. As I am sure you will appreciate, these are not the finished product. They are mock-up samples and should be viewed as such. But wow! I certainly cant wait to get them in hand and onto a DD unit. The samples do not have the DD embossing yet. The hardware (studs etc) are all internally covered so as to protect our machines. I opted for a leather strap so that both will age together. The metal loop etc are all black The only change I have said may need to be made is the width of the belt loop, but that will have to wait until I return Anyway... IGNORE THE GAP AT THE BOTTOM This is a sample and will not be like this on the final Too wide? Too pointy? All feedback both welcome and considered
