I recently bought, relatively cheaply, a Sony WM-DC6 but it came without any battery cage, lid and adapter.I managed to buy an Adapter on E-bay although they initially sent the wrong attachment but after advising them they sent the correct one with which works perfectly . I was also worried about the negative polarity and I had raised this with them as well .

I have since bought a lid for it which was made on a 3d printer and is available on E-bay for a very moderate sum of £8 and this also came with instructions to ensure you pull back the small button to insert the lid

So I only know need a battery ca,if possible, the headphones which I think will be difficult to find. However ,by chance , I have just bought for £23 plus postage a very early Sony cassette player /recorder which is the Sony TC-44. I was testing this machine and was loading the batteries when I happened to notice that the battery cage for this machine looked the same as the one in the Sony WM-DC6

I therefore tried this in the WM-DC6 and ,lo and behold ,it worked but I did not expect the lid to fit as well but with some caution I managed also to fit the lid which was made specially on as well .Result!!!!!!

Now I am looking for a broken Sony TC-44. If anyone has one they do not need, could you let me know.

If you have a soldering iron it might be possible to make a suitable battery holder from a Generic Holder like this

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AA-x-4-O...064254?hash=item3cee4d0afe:g:UQMAAOSwj0NUiJ~m

    glue and some brass strip.

You don't even need to be a soldering expert as you would only be soldering to the holder, not the Walkman itself.

If the holder is too long sand it down a bit.

Just be careful to get the polarity right. Having a working holder will help you with this.

I once did the same trick with an Amateur Radio rig where the batteries had leaked and ruined the holders.

p.s. Another thought. Some time ago people were discussing battery springs for boomboxes. If you bought D cell holders you could take the springs out of them.

Great tips guys, you are pushing me now into buying some cheapo D6C w/o batt box to complement my boxed D6 and to compare their SQ: late D6C are all chips, almost zero electrolytics which fill the whole D6 volume.

@Longman I did buy those D-holders, but then ended up with scavenging springs/plates off some cheapo'n'beaten bbox: the springs and wiring off those Chinese holders would do the trick but feel kinda "cheap"...

each and every time I fool myself by thinking that I'm going to sell my resto baby, but they just keep piling up: the only things I managed to force myself to sell were a few D-90 Discmans

I tried using one of the generic holders but from memory they were just too big to fit in the unit and it would need a lot of sanding down . I have since managed to buy another Sony Tc-44 (sold as parts and spares) on eBay for 23 euros. The only bummer was the seller was in Germany and the postage was about 18 euros . In any event I am a useless at diy so I would rather just but one. Thanks for the help though
