Beautiful photos, and an excellent example of the WM-10. But I'm somehow more drawn to that Sony cassette! What a nice packaging.
Gosh Hawker & Hugo, that WM-10 sure is tiny. I've got a WM-EX7 that is nearly same size, and its amazing what Sony packs into such a constrained design in these wonderful Walkmans !!! Cheers, Bleusy ************
Nice shots indeed. Sony, the master of Walkman miniaturization. This is the concept how the Japanese crippled Pearl Harbor they use mini submarines to surround Oahu and sink ships..
Ah yes, a wonderful model indeed and I really like how the tape "raises" the bar with the buttons up when inserted. Besides, as far as I know the outer layer of its casing is made of metal, right? I was considering to get this one ca. 2 years ago, though the prices I saw were too high for my starting budget.
Ah, good to know. Thanks for clearing that up! I always thought the white part that's usually hidden is made of plastic since it looks matt. Seems to be the paintjob then.
Now this is the thing... The WM-10 is indeed a very small walkman but I always struggled to see the point. With no cassette inserted it is indeed the smallest walkman ever made with the possible exception of a Hitachi model that I can't remember the name of. I just never understood the concept as the cassette still needs to be stored somewhere. Why have the expanding mechanism if when compressed it can't actually store a cassette.
Superb photos though. We could all learn a lot from those who take their time with photography of these beauties.
AO, I thought the concept was so you could store it in your tape box when you weren't using it? Besides that it was one of the best looking portables at that time and still amazing to look at and hard to believe how small it is.
