Hi folks got an old sony wm-6 walkman and it looks like it needs a belt. However when i strip the shell off the belt looks inaccessible as the pcb is on top of it. Is there another way to approach this as i dont want to damage it. its in great condition and i can see the motor spinning but the belt is just mush now. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Here is a bit of a service manual that might help https://www.manualscenter.com/manuals/sony/wm6-service-manual.html#.XatqaZJKi70 On the Sonys I have changed belts on so far the PCB connections have been made through connectors, in at least one the springy ones that push on the board. In contrast a Panasonic was a PITA as the PCB was soldered directly to the motor which was bolted to the mechanism. If you try to lift the PCB two pieces of advice 1) Don't try and force anything. If the PCB won't move there is probably a good reason why 2) When refitting the PCB make sure aby switches on the board are correctly aligned. There may be an internal one to the mechanism.
hi.managed to do it. the volume knob has some sort of retaining bolt on it which needs unscrewed. not very handy! also managed to pull off the power wires! However managed to change the belt and all working now. thanks for the tips guys.
