speed is set and tested through the use of a 3khz signal calibration cassette recorded on a fully working machine.
if your walkman is set properly, than the calibration tape should give you a 3khz signal.
To test the speed you need the following:
    a 3khz calibration tape
a small screwdriver to adjust the motor
    a phone

the process is described in detail here:
    https://fixyouraudio.com/instructions/speed-adjustment/

Are you sure that your machine was set properly? Something that can happen is that your main recording machine isnt up to speed due to time and as such all your recordings will not sound right.

I use Spectrum on iphone iOS. You play the calibration tape and put the headphones near to your phone’s microphone and on the screen you can measure the frequency quite close. with the correct tuning screw can get very close to 3kz. It’s close enough for a free iOS app anyway.

I use 3kHz calibration tape and WFGUI program available for free from ANT Audio
you will need a 3.5mm male-male cable to get a signal from h/p (or Line-out) into laptop microphone jack, but you will see W&F not just speed :)
