I have never actually heard of a gadget for one specific purpose like this, but here it is! It runs quite slow as it happens but I’ll take it apart later and give it a good clean. Currently it rewinds a c30 in under a minute but that’s actually not much faster than my D6C, so hopefully it can be improved.

    Speed test:
    1min30 for c-60
    2min20 for c-90
Also, the SA90 in the above picture got jammed. Unit will need a belt change!

Further info: unit appears in the 1982 Maxell catalogue

There is a difference between rewinder and winder, but it’s very obvious what they do!

Also, I may be able to use a magnet on the ew 340, and turn it into an eraser. I would imagine a small neodymium magnet would be strong enough if placed correctly.

Thanks! These are so cool, I have to admit, I've never seen one up close yet.

Ha, very cool, i dont see the point of a dedicated battery powered winder but the manual ones are cool

I took it to pieces today for a clean. It’s literally a motor at 90 degrees to the capstan with a belt, and then a belt from there to the further capstan. Tiny PCB, 4 AA batteries. I quite like the soft stop feature, there’s a tiny rubber tyre which brings the wind to a stop before it rips the tape. I imagine a hand winder you’d have to be careful to not destroy the tape with over wind
