Hi everyone. Derek-new member. Have a Sony d-100 discman bought in 1985. I run it from ac adaptor. BP-100 battery long dead. When i press play disc spins for a few seconds and then stops. Can anyone suggest what may be wrong please.

The most common cause is the grease has hardened on the spiral gear that the motor runs. It basically moves the laser assembly across the disc. You'll need to do some disassembly to rectify it. Clean the old grease off and re-grease. Not sure on type of grease so you will need to do a search on this forum or google it.

Hi Buzbox. Thanks for your quick reply. That sounds right as it has been kept in its box for the last 20 years. Will try and find out what type of grease. Thanks again.
