Hi there, Yet another attempted repair with a problem, very sorry to pester you all. I was given a Walkman EX-194 (a more complex assembly, reaching the belt involves desoldering some wires first) and given that the board was covered in corrosion damage and rust (not kidding, the terminals were almost eaten away by either rust or blue alkaline leakage) it was a bit of a struggle to get to the belt. I believe the spring seen in an image below must have fallen off this Walkman, as for some reason the rewind button is not staying in place when pressed (as play and fast forward do... Electrically it still works, so this is a mechanical issue wholly). Has anyone else here taken this model apart before? I haven't seen any disassembly videos or pictures for this online so unfortunately I can only guess as I always do, though if some brave soul here would be willing to get to their belt assembly to show me where this spring might go then I'd be very grateful. It could also be something else that's gone wrong but I'm sure its this spring, I heard someone pop off while fiddling with the battery terminals and I suspect this spring c ame off due to excessive strain inadvertently put on it by my lumbering fingers. I can also post a video of the mechanisms all working if someone feels that would help. Either way, thank you all and I hope to hear from you soon
Hi, it's fixed. The spring was a red herring for another project it turns out. The rewind button was slightly bent up to begin with. After hours of racking my brain and comparing the mechanism to Peter Vis' disassembly and concluding that everything was seemingly okay, I took off the plastic button, re-bent the metal frame underneath to be straight again, and reattached the button. Hopefully this is long term as the bending required a lot of force, but it's fixed! Sometimes the simplest solutions are the most satisfying. May need to post about this repair job as the EX194 is an interesting beast, very small and light-weight but with quite complex engineering inside. What an incredible little gadget, so very happy to see it back in full working order!
