Got this unit from my cousin last 2 weeks. Very unfortunate due to over excitement, just can't wait to test the deck and not aware that the unit was actually configure under US AC power. Apparently my country AC power is sourced at 240 VAC and guess what the unit just blow up and trip off the circuit breaker of my house.

The 2nd transformer was safe lucky though as the circuit breaker fast enough to cut-off the power. But I need to reconfigure it for 240VAC.

Finally the deck was successfully restored, it was fortunate that the control board was not damage.

    Whoops.

When you say the transformer was burnt out you can see it was.
I had a similar experience with a 1950s French Model Railway transformer, except with that it didn't blow the fuse.
After trying to work out why the train was going so fast it kept derailing I happened to glance as the transformer which was starting to smoke.

I was very surprised to find it had 110V or maybe 120V printed on it. France was all 220V when I first went there in the early 1970s.

WOW! I would have gotten myself a heart attack!!! But you managed to survive and even pulled out with a great deck, Congrats!!!
    :delighted:
I am still living with a Yamaha deck restored a few months ago, but Nak is on my To-Do list... Living in a "flat" instead of my own house has a Huge drawback: I cannot hide anything from my Boss, and she is vigilant nowadays!!!

that is amazing, that the deck, intentionally or not, protected itself from the voltage by burning the transformer...

Nice recovery repair for your Nak CR-4 deck. How's the playback audio output sounding now, with new power trans source? Have you considered replacing the associated capacitors also?

    Rgds,
