Hey, I’m Flo! I’ve always been a fan of retro gear, like Walkmans and fountain pens. I found this site after Google mentioned there were a lot of repair experts here, and I’m in need of some help. My beloved Sony Walkman WM-D6C recently stopped working, and I’m hoping to get it back in shape. I’ve had a bad experience before when someone “offered” to repair one of my Walkmans, only for it to be stolen, so I’m pretty cautious these days.

Growing up, I’d record songs with my dad, and we even did mock interviews, capturing some of our conversations on tape. I still make mixtapes now and then and occasionally grab new cassette albums from Bandcamp. It’s a hobby that feels like it has a lot of life left in it, and I’m excited to keep the analog vibe going!

Welcome Flo, yea the D6C is one of the more complicated models, finding professional help might be needed and should enhance the value and keep it running for much longer.

It looks like you have a DAT? Did your dad do interviews? My buddy promised me one of his years ago, he was in radio and interviewed just about everyone in the 90's.

Fountain Pens is turning into a lost art, we used to do it in art class but that was decades ago. I probably still have a few pens and ink sitting next to my Staedler Pen Collection. Feel free to post any of it, we love the stuff.

It is worth getting this D6C fully repaired and restored by Deb64 or Valentin here on the forums. Especially since it is sentimental and was a part of your life. It is worth it. The D6C will sound incredible once restored fully. You won't believe it. It was a D6C "bought on blind faith" on e-bay that showed and proved to my curiosity how extraordinary cassette can sound!

... but just be very careful when trying to operate it from an external supply such as a wall wart - the connector is wired the Sony way, opposite polarity than usual, and you must never exceed the 6 V DC supply voltage. Apart from that, the D6C doesn't gladly suffer being supplied by switch-mode power supplies, which I had to learn the very hard way. You can find very useful information on this subject elsewhere in this forum.

    Good luck!
    Robert
