I've found this site recently while looking for technical info, as I've purchased a few Walkman and begun to change belts, pinch rollers, and re-learn how to solder... a skill you need if you're going to work on these units! And unlike welding, you can't use a grinder to make things look nice!

I've kept my college-era Technics receiver, Technics SL-20 TT, and Sony TC-K71 3 head cassette deck, as well as my 50 or so tapes from the 70s and 80s, and wanted a way to play them. And the Walkman is a fascinating miniature mechanical sound machine!! (When they work as they were designed...)

I've upgraded the Stereo and Turntables and speakers as my interest has re-engaged, and enjoy troubleshooting and fixing.

Currently have working WM-FX45 and WM-EX170, and a EX808 that worked well until I cleaned the heads with IPA! But thats for another thread. I've got a Panasonic RQ-S70 on the way I know will need work, So Marian can sell me more belts and rollers! (which i really appreciate his parts and website info, it's been valuable!)

I appreciate the info gleaned here, and if I can share information I will do that.

Welcome to the forum, it sounds like you have some nice equipment and being able to do some tweaking helps, they're at the age where some maintance work needs to be done. I'm surprised the IPA did some damage usually it dries so quick it's not an issue unless it drags dirt or belt remains across the head.
