Hi boombox peeps. Can I get some thoughts on this one? It is a worthwhile box to get? What is the build and sound quality like on these?
Very rare around here, I think most people think of Grundig as making cool mid-century modern full-size multi-band radios from the 60's, that's all I've ever seen, along with the little Yacht Boy multi-band radios (similar to Sony's ICFs) that flooded the market in the 80's. Overall it looks like it could either be a really nice box with quality parts or a nice box with cheap parts like the others that started showing up in the mid-80's. The design is pretty nice, I'd take a chance on it being a little nicer player. Now you got me looking on Ebay and there's a handful of older boomboxes I'd grab, we've finally flipped, shipping is now a lot more than some of these boomboxes.
Grundig went through several changes of ownership https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grundig so the quality probably depends on the era. Radiomuseum dates the RR-3600 to 1983 to 1985 https://www.radiomuseum.org/r/grundig_rr3600rr_360.html so it dates back to when Grundig was an independent company making quality products. The fact that there is a full service manual available for it https://www.manuals-in-pdf.com/download-RR3600-GRUNDIG-p-1426572.html shows it isn't just some rebadged Hong Kong special. I can't comment on sound quality vs other boxes from the same era although the 1970s radios had a very good reputation.
sorry to say, but this is a cheap and light box. real Grundig fans won‘t like it, as it‘s allready some cheap and light, probably Taiwan/Japan/HongKong (…) o.e.m. mass-product. i‘m 100% convinced that there‘s plenty no-name aka‘s around. i wouldn‘t bother…
it looks nice for a grundig, never been a fan of them, there boomboxes normally look to clunky and outdated imho but if it's cheap 100 150 maybe give it a go
