Hi @all, I am Daniela from Austria. I own a Philips 70CD555 from 1986/87 which is dead for decades. Right now I have three of them, all with more or less the same issues - CD Player and Tape Deck dead. Think this sound machine has an incredible sound and for the 80ies it was really innovative with a micro-controller driven autoreverse tape deck which can be programmed the same way as a CD-Player. I bought this item back in 1987 and had to safe my money for half a year to effort it and it broke right after the warranty expired :-( After a long time I am now resurrecting this unit and as far as I can tell at this point it is going to be a huge challenge because there are many things broken. Since it is not possible to get a lot of information about this device I am also documenting my progress on a website to help others to benefit from my experiences. A long time past when I studied electronics (I became a software developer later on) so I will need some time to get back into this topic. Pretty sure I will need help from some professionals here. I started a month ago to bring this unit back to life and had some success but also facing a lot of other challenges. Great to see that so many people keeping those old devices alive! Kind Regards, Daniela
Welcome. Was your Philips made in Austria? Many of their radio cassettes, like my Philips Roller 2, were. Unfortunately, many Philips cassette decks used gears made out of a plastic that goes brittle and crumbles. The good news is that so many have gone people now make replacements. I'm not sure about that model though which really looks to be top of the range. p.s. I presume you have seen this http://stereo2go.com/forums/threads/resurrection-of-a-philips-cd555-sound-machine.791/
Hi Longman, it points out "Made in Belgium". Yes I found this thread during my research, it finally brought me here The gears seem to be fine but thank god for the invention of 3d printers. Really helpful tools.
Welcome Daniela! I had the same problem with a monster Philips TV Set, I thought I was styling with it but a week after the 1 year warranty expired it quit working. Good luck with your equipment, post photos and maybe we can help get it working again, somethings it's just cleaning the moving parts or it could be something more involved.
