Back in the early 80's I started the hobby of mixing cassette tapes for parties, and eventually had the bug to play music outside. Accordingly I bought my prized RC-M90 from Marantz Electronics on the south side, and started playing music at picnics and outdoor volleyball events. When I attended a 2010 boombox meetup in Florida, I caught the fever and now have a dozen different boxes spread about our house. As I continued mixing through the decades, I occasionally still bring out a box to entertain. I do depend on electronics repair shops for an occasional repair, and sometimes they lack the best skills for these older unit repairs.
Welcome to the forum! Unfortunately the world of vintage audio repair is shrinking everyday. I've even had my Sansui AU-919 turned down by one of our nicer repair shops in town. Were you on the old forum?
There's a TV/VCR repair shop in LA that I sometimes use, but he's difficult to communicate with since he's Vietnamese and doesn't speak or write very much English
That video of Svengoolie is a riot. There used to be horror gift shop called Horrobles in Berwyn. When they expanded the store, Svengoolie was the guest of honor and signing chickens. There was an hour long line all day. I was on the old forum but did not visit often. At the moment, I am looking for someone to fix my WM-DC6 Walkmans, (two of four have problems), and will ship them anywhere to someone who has the passion and knowledge to fix them. P.S> It was Martroy Electronics at 63rd and Kedzie where I bought my M90 (not Marantz-old guy brain fart). They are still open!
