Hello, my name is Richard and I live in NYC. I came across this website because a few weeks ago a next door neighbor moved out and I found some interesting things that were discarded by the neighbor, specifically an Aiwa HS-J600 personal stereo and also a Sony TC-WE625b dual cassette deck. I came across this site when researching the Aiwa HS-J600 ( a model which I believe that I owned when it was originally released in the 1980s. The Aiwa is missing the battery compartment door but I was able to put 2 AAA batteries in the compartment and get the radio working. The Aiwa even has the additional external microphone and the case, but no headphones. I will borrow a cassette from someone and test the cassette player soon. The Sony TC-WE625 is something I know nothing about - I am about to download the manual and figure out how it works - not just a simple cassette player. I am very interested in selling both of these items - I would definitely like to figure out their value first and then I can ascertain what their selling price will be - but I will always entertain offers
Welcome to the forum Richrd! Those are nice finds, hopefully you find the headphones. The tape deck is nothing special but my local vintage audio dealer tells me he can sell everyone he gets in stock. Without doing any research I'd say $30-$150. Once it starts going up in price, people will start looking for nicer models. The HS-J600 is a great little player but it might be a nightmare to change the belt and find a battery door. The portable cassette hobby, while very enjoyable, can be an exercise in frustration just to get the units in good working condition. Mint units go for decent money, but the return drops a ton for "non-working" units. Good luck, members are usually good at helping out.
