Hi all!! I've recently got this little Technics SL-XP 300 discman that does not work with batteries. I don't own the AC adaptor so, at least for the time being, can't test it with that!

So i saw this thread right here: http://stereo2go.com/forums/threads/technics-sl-xp300-stopped-working-with-batteries.4870/

The owner appears to have the same problem and mannaged to fix it (i've tried to contacted him but had no answer).

I'm in the look for the schematics he uses to fix it, anyone can help me with that?. Do you think it can be a fuse issue?

Sorry my english!! Thanks in advance, any help will be welcome!! Cheers

Technics SL-XP300 Service Manual, including schematics, is over 17MB, I have it but it is too big to upload it here. You can download it from HiFiEngine

You have to be more specific about "does not work": cold dead, or does not start, or fails to track CD?!? If 'dead', it might be a fuse, or cold/broken solder joint, or corroded batt terminals... but whatever the case you need at least a multimeter to find where you lose the power from batteries to the board. If CPU gets power but no signs of life, then it gets tricky to find the glitch

Jorge thanks por the quick reply (gracias!). I've tried to download the repair manual from HiFiEngine (i have an account and all) but i'm getting the messagge: "Sorry but this feature is currently unavailable" while i try to download it, for like two ot three weeks now. Can you upload it to https://gofile.io/welcome or https://wetransfer.com/ or similar please?

The "does not work" means cold dead! The discman makes nothing at all when batteries are inserted and i push the power button. Batt terminals are perfect, no corrosion. But no screen turns on, no cd movement at all, no nothing... Ah! and the batteries are brand new. I didn't open it to make a closer look, but will do that asap and upload pictures!

Is the fuse a common problem?

and Yes, Sony 1st Gen Discmans have a diode instead of a fuse (sadly missing in WM-D6, as most of S2G users are painfully aware of!) and if wrong adapter attached it opens. Saves the Discman but has to be exchanged

Open her up and following schematics check where you lose the voltage, hopefully an easy fix. Good Luck!!! :)

OK! I open her up. Everything looks just fine... i don't really know where to start looking for. Does anybody recognize the fuse or similar? (could it be the one circle in red in the circuit picture?) Tried it again with bateries and nothnig happens at all. Bateries compartment is looking perfect also.

    Some pictures below :)

ICP11 is on the other side of the board, right under Q316 circled on your photo

Does it work off DC adapter?

You do not need an adapter to use the Discman: batteries last forever. But it helps to narrow down the problem, batteries and adapter go thru different paths and more then once it helped me to find the glitch ;)
