Hi everyone, I’ve been tasked with repairing a friend’s Panasonic Walkman RQ-P44. Inside, I found that the drive belt has completely deteriorated. Unfortunately, I can’t find any information about the correct size for the replacement belt for this model. If anyone has experience with this specific Walkman or knows the belt dimensions, I’d really appreciate your help. Thank you in advance!
Don't know the belt dimensions, but the belt set is available from DeckTech: https://www.ebay.com/itm/324026018026 You can measure the dimensions yourself (inner diameter x thickness) and post them here for reference.
Thank you for your response! I know I could measure the diameter using a string, but the diameter alone isn’t enough—I also need the thickness of the belt. Unfortunately, the old belt has disintegrated so completely that there’s nothing left to measure. I admit I previously purchased belts based on what seemed like a similar model, but they didn’t fit properly. This makes me wonder: is there any sort of catalog or comprehensive reference for drive belts that could help pinpoint the right one? Oh, and one more detail: the Walkman has two belts. The larger one has a diameter of about 30mm, while the smaller one is around 22mm. Thanks again for your help!
DeckTech is a reputable belts seller. Buy confidently from them, belts will fit. Set I linked is for this exact model, not for a similar one. What I stated in regard to measurements was to measure the DeckTech ones in case you get them. Of course this won't be useful for you, just a reference for others. If you want to get the belts by dimension, the other option is to get from FixYourAudio. Unfortunately here only 0.8mm thickness are available for 22mm diameter: https://fixyouraudio.com/product/sq...8-for-cassette-players-and-cd-players-5ytpq8/ Seen this model before and I think the small one is 0.6mm not 0.8mm. And 30mm doesn't exist, it's either 25mm or 34mm which are both a bit far from what you need. There was a thread on the forum regarding belts dimensions made by members, however this is a late entry-level model and I doubt you will find it there. I also have belts dimensions in my common problems thread, but again don't have this model. That's why in my opinion simplest way is to get the DeckTech belts.
If you get the belt assortment from fix your audio, you might get a smallest belt that you might need. I don't know. Here's what I got
