Good afternoon! I’ve recently encountered a bit of a strange problem regarding my walkman WM-3. When listening to any given tape on this device i noticed there is some FAIRLY high amounts of sibilance in playback. At first i thought it was just a bad tape, but then i started going through more and the same problem occurred for all of them. I played those tapes back on my DD33 to find that the tapes sounded normal on it, with dolby off and the tape type to the respective tape. Most of my recordings were done on an Aiwa AD-F660 and recordings that werent were bought tapes or tapes made by family back in the 80’s, all suffered sibilance in playback on the WM-3 (The walkman has had its belts and rollers replaced and capstan/motor oiled) Thanks for any help!

it sounds like you have the one or other dry capacitor in the amp-line. those electrolyte-caps can dry out and fail, this causes your noise...
