Hi everyone. I got (back) into cassettes a year or two ago. Since then I've been lucky enough to acquire a WM-3 and a WM-D3. Both required some work to get up and running, but thanks to all of the great info on these boards and elsewhere on the web, I was able to do it. I enjoy the refurbishing part, collecting cassettes and making mix tapes (recording from iTunes mostly).

Happy to be a part of the community. :)

    welcome aboard
You got 2 nice walkman units. WM-3 is very durable walkman . A belt change is usually needed for this one
almost all D3 have the same common central gear issue but this model is a good walkman for recording.

    Thanks :)

Thanks! I really lucked out on the Wm-3 especially. The motor wasn't even working, so I got it for a steal. All it took was a few knocks on the desk and some manually turning it by hand, and it slowly crept back to full speed. :) Of course the belts were bad, but that was an easy fix with Marian's replacements. It runs great now. Oh, and it even came with the leather case!

Thanks! I actually bought the D3 specifically for recording because I don't really have the space for a full-size deck. I know it's not quite as good as a nice deck, but I think it's perfectly capable for my use. I've replaced basically everything with Marian's parts (center gear, rewind gear, capstan tire, etc), but am still having some W&F issues that I'm trying to work out (I posted a thread in the Tech forum). Otherwise, it's a perfect fit for me. :)

Unless they were dropped or got wet these things are pretty robust, it's nice when it's an easy fix. If you can crack them open, change a belt, maybe solder a headphone jack wire, you can fix 95% of these things.
