It's Saturday and something already in my plan to roam the town and look for vintage car stereos. In fact not many of these shops are still around as most already been gone but I manage to bump into one which has been running for 40 years. As you can see most of the classic systems are still being display, I feel like I have traveled back in time when I enter the shop. I will share what I have pulled off from this trip in a new thread, meanwhile please enjoy these pics. Look at the old classic Alpine demo cabinet!!!
Every town used to have a shop like that. Nowadays even the car accessory shops are closing down. I'm probably one of the reasons as I gave up on DIY car repairs years ago. Modern cars are just too complicated for that, telling yo9u when they need a service etc. Browsing on Ebay I spotted this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SONY-MEX...788309?hash=item3d87872dd5:g:B~cAAOSwwFldznq8 Looking at other pictures it seems to just use arrows on the display to point you in the direction to go.
Wow, It's too bad they don't display the merchandise better, that's a huge slice of automotive history. That Alpine Display is really cool, check out the speaker selector switch box.
The owner only focus on common service and repair to customers, sadly these old merchandise only sat in the shelf for dust as many do not know how to appreciate these oudated products..
Unless you have a classic car they will be difficult to fit as you have found. Back in 1995 these are the Pioneer units, club catalogue Grattan were offering £100 for a pair of speakers to go with your £470 cassette / CD player. Of course Grattan would let you pay over 48 weeks at 36% APR.
Guys are building cabinets and making mini-stereos, the price over here is silly money for the high end equipment. Of course having a vintage car with a full stack would be really nice.
