Does anyone own or know any info for this Sanyo Mono? Its the first time i see it. Its a Japanese Model. I ve been told its Coaxial , probably a Sanyo MR - something model.
My hobby mate (thanks to him ) pointed towards Sanyo MR6200. https://injapan.ru/auction/s523054677.html
Thanks Mystic Traveller, thats the model # Needs a change of transformer since its a Japanese only unit and i dont know if i ll get it or not.
You are welcome, mate! So you don't know yet if you are going to snatch this radio or not? I've got quite a few of the JDM 100V boxes and never changed transformers so far - I've been using step-down transformers for more than 3.5 years already - no issues so far (*touching wood*).
Got it , its Really Big and i love its sound. It s Fully working. Member Sotza gave me some really helpful advice for it which i followed and everything was ok. It even came with a step down transformer plus A Philips Roller BBox. Pics will follow these coming Weekend.
As promised here are some pics of this Beautiful Japanese Mono Sanyo Boombox . Its a Sanyo MR-6200(thanks to member Mystic Traveller for this) and its Worldwide Equivalent is the M-2848(thanks to member Fatdog from Boomboxery.com for this) The Step down transformer works properly and i wanted to share some pics for other members to recognize what it looks like. This one in particular has a european plug, it transforms the current from 220V to 110 V.(Thanks to member Sotza for the advice on this matter) I can always use the DC-IN with 12v for this one. I like my boombers as original as possible, so it was a relief to know that nobody had messed with the insides of this Mono! The Philips Roller D-8007 came as a present with it. Without the Precious help from these members i wouldnt have bought this gem. Thanks so much you guys. PS: It s a Coaxial Unit and in my eyes it seems like the brother of Stereo Sanyo M-9970 which is also Coaxial. Maybe Sanyo released them the same year. Which i guess it is the late 70s judging by the looks. Possibly 1979. Have a nice Saturday Night everyone and get off the Internet !
What a beautiful mono Sanyo! You always astonish me with your findings my friend -- and I mean not noly the box, but also its possibe datation. In fact, the two coaxial units have a lot in common also in terms of design. Great eye for details as usual -- and I must say that the Philips Roller in red is an eyecandy-- !
I love 70's models, I was looking for some information and found this thread. That voltage converter looks interesting, mine's larger with a cord but that one would be nice for smaller boomboxes.
Sanyo m2448 uses 8D batteries. Here's the back label Here is the front of it. Mostly top. The button for the AM and FM switch is broke on mine but the cassette player works. It won't select between AM orf and it gets stuck on one or the other. I can't remember which right now. And here's the AC and DC input Hi Samantha as well And here's a front view decentman4you2007@gmail.com If you're interested in it.
Sanyo M2448 with big 8 inch speaker looks good. The AM / FM selection looks a see-saw button where one is pressed down and the other pops up? Is that how it works? Maybe you just need to take it apart and lubricate this switch arrangement as dry and dusty? I am tempted to snap it up just because there are not too many mono boxes with 8 inch speakers. But I wouldn't want to become some kind of collector! Right?! That would be nutty! ( I am trying very hard to avoid becoming a collector...)
People mistake me for being a collector. I consider myself an experiencer. That is I buy it. Check it out, repair it normally and then make a video about it and try to understand if I want it or not.
I try to skip all that. By studying pictures and user reports on forums like this. To try and see if something is made like junk, or must sound like junk, based on original unit price and user reports, speaker size and placement and cassette mechanism quality etc., Trying to get a handle on quality and design and what others think has certainly worked well in my other main interest which is backyard astronomy, telescopes and binoculars and so on. So yeah I am always trying to skip the actual buying part of the experience. I would say yes I am an experiencer too. Curiosity from reading what others say and describe got me back into cassettes to hear what they can be like on a decent system and to try out a few top discman players and so on. And if I don't like a device I have to sell it with all the hassle that entails.
Hyperscope, there were a few bad to the bone mid-70's mono boomboxes, I think most were 6" speakers like the Sharp GF-6000. My personal opinion is that people wanted that crazy stereo setup back then and the mono's just didn't sell as well. What is more cool then walking on the beach with a huge stereo boombox and blasting the Steve Miller Band? Most from 75-79 were built old-school with a lot of internal metal parts so they feel heavy. I would consider some of the smaller Superscope CR Models to be on the entry-level side but since they're part Marantz, they tend to sell at a premium. While they're entry level, some have really thick plastic cases which gives an aura of higher quality.
Sure. They were really just short wave radios that happened to have a cassette deck when ya think about it. Especially that National Panasonic 5410. This Sanyo M2448 is another nice almost-top example though. I'm really only after that big Sony Mono that I am looking for! I want to skip all the plethora of low end and middling ho-hum 70's Monoboxes and just get the top couple. I am starting to think Sony was King in this department too. But that's just me. I will find out.
Here's a cool Sony one Ebay, I've got my eye on it, I love the added case. https://www.ebay.com/itm/276528589326
Yes Mister X, that Sony CF-480S is the general export version of the CF-1980. Which was updated as the CF-1980 MKII which is the CF-485 for the rest of us. A really ubiquitous model in Japan apparently. A beat up CF-485 is on e-bay at the moment too by the way. Anyway, I have been considering that CF-480S you picture for weeks now... but it is the lower-lower shelf version of the King Mono by Sony which is the CF490 / CF-495 (CF-1990 in Japan). I may as well wait for one of those. Searching e-bay completed sales one finds a CF-1980 MKV sold a couple of months back, the point being that Sony kept releasing iterations of this Mono, up to 5 times! What are the differences? What was upgraded? Do they sound any better with each version etc.,? The answers are on Japanese websites if anywhere. And maybe a clue as to why this Mono was so seemingly popular in Japan.
Sony CF-1980 MKV. Not my picture. From the completed e-bay sale few months back. Curious why so many revisions and what kept changing? Must have been a very popular size / format model in Japan.
I think they all had different features, some basic, some with advance recording. They might have also been upgraded with the different tape formulations that were coming out. A lot of the early JDM had a short FM band, then it went longer with TV stations added. Tourist sales was probably huge so having a full band was a no-brainer and locally they could say it pulled in the TV band. There's a ton of ads in the newspaper ad thread, some from Japanese Newspapers, you may find more info over there.
Well, I got a message that hyperscope has received the Sanyo m2448 and Sony cf-470l and the Sony CF- 1990. All three are mono that I made videos about and he hasn't had time to unbox the box, containing all three that I sent to him. Can't wait to hear his updated review.
