    Hello everyone,

I unfortunately broke the S701 switch on my WM-EX631 while re-assembling (my bad not reading properly the service manual) and I'm looking for a replacement - would anybody have a spare from a dead body, or know where to source these kind of switches?

    Sony reference is 1-771-475-21, and it's a 3-position switch with 6 feet.

    Hi everyone,

I managed to source a donor unit (WM-EX527) so was ready to replace the switch. However, having nothing to loose, I decided to give a try to my trusted method based on baking soda + super glue (see also https://stereo2go.com/forums/threads/sony-wm-dd-plastic-slider-repair-how-to.9547/).

I'm happy to share that this worked perfectly well - as usual only takes patience and care.

Hereafter a few pics to show how I did - hoping it will inspire others to try such an approach for seemingly desperate situations :)

    Pay attention to:
    • be gently when unsoldering the switch as you can potentially damage PCB pads - it happened to me, I have to glue back the pad and carve a bit the PCB with a scalpel to ensure continuity with PCB trace when soldering back
    • add only the minimum quantity of glue/baking soda - have a light touch, these are very small parts
    • file and shape carefully to size, trying to fit the switch in the corresponding slider until you're satisfied
    • ensure that the t-shaped piece metal tips are properly making contact with the bottom part of the switch - you can check this by testing continuity at the pins of the switch in its 3 positions. At first I had issues (switch was not working) until I realized I had to slightly raise the tips to establish proper contact (they probably were lowered during my manipulations)
