Hi guys/gals. Have just found my car mini-disc player that i used to have in my Vauxall Cavalier back in the early 2000's. Found it in the loft- completely forgot i kept it. Model- Sony- MDX-CA790X. I always remember the sound quality through this, and how easy it was to store mini-discs in the car. Would love to have it installed in my Honda Jazz but the facias on these newer cars are so different. Dont think it would fit properly. Does anyone else still have a mini-disc player in their car?

I used to have mini disc in my old Mazda 323. It sounded awesome and yes minidisc was a format that was just perfect for cars! I did look into having the same unit installed in my much newer Renault scenic but from what i remember it needed some sort of special wiring loom for the back and it was just a silly amount of money for just the wiring, let alone the adapter to maker it fit. Just wasn't worth it in the end. So now I'm stuck with a crappy 6 CD changer thing under the passenger seat which is always jamming up just when you really want to listen to it!

I seem to remember my mate had a mini-disc changer in his XR2 back in the day, he loved the format and had quite a few discs he recorded stuff on and quite a few pre-recorded ones too. Always remember being impressed with the sound quality and wanting the same for my car.

Hi Lupogiboy. Thanks for reply. Think i will just have to look at it. The cost to have it installed now would be too expensive. We can dream i suppose.

I love the MD Format and play with it every once in a while. I'm still looking for a old-school looking square boom box that takes MD, I remember seeing one when the format first appeared but I've had no luck on ebay finding one. There's some that are close but a little too egg shaped for me. My vehicles are old and I still have cassette decks in them so that's kind of a bonus. Keep the components, guys now a days are building a little enclosures and using 12v power supply to have a mini "home-system." Some of the high-end car stereos back then were just as impressive, if not more, as some of the boxes and Walkmans.

I was thinking the same thing about a home system using this car mini-disc system. I just remember loving it in my car-the quality, and 50w of power out ×4. Have never seen a boombox mini-disc player. I hope you have luck sourcing one. Loved your thread on the ancient units. All so interesting.
