I recently repaired a sony wm-4 walkman, tape head is clean and there are new belts put in place; however both of the 3.5 mm ports are slightly corroded and its causing an occasional annoying crackle/static noise. Any cleaning advise (minus the scratching method) would be appreciated.

Some kind of switch and contact cleaner - DeOxit seems to be the most popular in the US.

DeOxit has saved me several times but I rarely run into headphone issues. There's a lot of do's and don'ts for headphone jacks but basically don't scratch the metal or use a brush that might leave filiments. Check out DeOxit's Site, they might have something just for headphone jacks and the cleaning tools needed. I get most of my stuff at the local guitar stores and Amazon if it's an unusual application.

I started poking around the site, they've added a bunch of new products, this anti-static cleaner looks promising.
