Hi all. I’m normally a Digital fan but I recently bought a TT. One thing lead to another and I thought it would be neat to have a go with actual mix tapes. I now have a Sony Walkman WM-F77. Belts are new on it but I am having a bit of an issue with the auto reverse. I hit play on the Walkman and it starts going in one direction, stops and then starts play the reverse and then back to the first direction. It does this for about 10 seconds, constantly changing the playback direction before it finally stops. I do not have this model but the way you explained the problem there should be a resistance in the movement parts. I think you should manually rotate each gear to find out whether or not there is a resistance in a specific spot and then try to clean and lubricate it.
Lubed everything up (there was some resistance) and when I was turning gears I noticed a clicking that was up near the direction selector. Took tweezers and positioned the snapped bits together (held by friction) and the clicking stopped when turning the gears. I think some solder should hold that. The direction selector doesn’t seem to engage anything mechanically. That might be a extremely time consuming fix. Source turned out to be a tiny metal piece that was split in two. Also the tape type selector is broken, and the positive wire leading out of SW pins on the circuit board are frayed.
