PYE Australia cassette player advert, 1979

    I always though PYE was on the cheap end for equipment, but I was a kid so maybe I’m wrong.
    The stereo boombox looks pretty good to me and the calculator and cassette recorder all in one is an interesting combo.

    Pye were effectively a sub-brand of Philips from 1967. Even in the 1980s some of the TVs were identical apart from the badging. I wonder if the different brands was something to do with dealerships. It reminds me of the situation with VW, Seat, and Skoda cars today. Back to Philips they used the brand names Norelco and Magnavox in the USA as Philips was deemed to be too close a name to Philco.

    I didn’t know that, just thought it was a cheaper type brand in Australia.

    The boombox kind of looks like a Samsung, I'd grab one if I saw it locally I love that big, bad shiny look.
