I have a WM-D3, which I assume has similar factory bias calibration to the D6C. Does anyone know which blank tape brands would be best for recording in terms of being a good match with how the D3 is calibrated? I have quite a few mid-80s TDK SA and SA-X's, Maxell XLII and XLII-S, and BASF Chrome Super/Maxima. Based on what I've read, I think the BASF needs a quite different bias setting than the TDK and Maxell. I would assume that since the D3 is a Japanese unit, it would be calibrated to the Japanese TDK or Maxell tape? I do have some old Sony UCX-S blanks, which I assume would work well, but I only have a few of them.

Anyways, I plan on doing some test runs, but was just curious if anyone has any experience using the D3 or D6C to make mixtapes, and if so which blanks work well for you.

You can calibrate your unit for use with your tape you usually use, by shorting the right amount of pads on the pcb.
