Hi I've been trying to fix the dreaded FF/rewind clutch issue in this Walkman (really poorly engineering mechanism if you ask me, horrible for servicing) and in the process of fiddling with the spring and c-clip the former pinged across my room somewhere and let's just say this place is a bit of a labyrinth. I will give a college try towards finding those parts again but if not I was wondering if there are any repair services in the UK willing to sort this issue out or, even better, if anyone provides springs and c-clips which are of similar or almost identical dimensions to the ones inside this. Play and stop are fine but the other two are, as expected, non-functional in terms of moving the tape. Any info would mean a lot to me. Thanks! stereomecha99
+1 to @Mister X : Finding the part is like changing Li-Ion battery in nowadays digital player: Forget It!!!
Well I've been up since 6am (noon now) trying to find them... I think I'm out of luck. If anyone has any suggestions for an improved clutch mechanism I'm all ears. May order a similarly small spring and c-clip lot and see if I can fit those on, doubt they'll work though. The play mechanism is also shot, this thing eats tapes and I'm just lucky I didn't test it out with one of my favourite tapes The eBay seller said this was a fully working unit, so I'm going to message him and ask for a partial refund. I didn't buy this one for repairs, just for my collection and to use, so I'm disappointed that what should have been just a simple belt swap could turn into a full repair as I've had to do on other units. The only difference is those other units don't have flawed designs with springs kept on by pressure alone... Whoever thought that was a good idea didn't think about servicing did they? Oh well what's done is done now...
Thanks for this suggestion also Mr X, but sadly all that I managed to find were random screws and whatnot. The c-clip vanished mysteriously, the spring pinged out as soon as I opened it up. They may show up a few years from now, we'll see. I don't intend on working on a device that I can't fully restore (FF and rew will stay non-working indefinitely) so I may just sell it off for parts, someone on eBay may appreciate it more than myself.
UPDATE: Think I'll hold onto this model, not strapped for cash and it doesn't take up too much space. I think I've managed to track down replacement springs and c-clips that could possibly work in place of the original. It will take 10 or so days for everything to arrive, until then I'll keep my fingers crossed. Incidentally do people know where to find the capacitors for this Walkman (know I can just read off the caps but I saw a bloke on YouTube order specifically the caps he needed for this model)? I plan to resolder the volume slider and learn more about replacing the caps in the meantime. Never replaced caps before but the YouTuber I'm referring to had a desoldering gun that made it look like a complete breeze. Will keep you all updated! If this works it could potentially help a lot of us
