Easter Bank Holiday here in England so no work today and just about to start taking apart one of these Aiwa F-770 for a belt replacement. One of my £5 car boot bargains last year and finally getting around to opening it up. I like the colour and brightness of the display and looking forward to hearing it. Does anyone have one of these? Is it a decent machine?

Yesterdays mission was a belt change to the cassette section one of my Sony FH-909's which took much longer than it should. Had to take apart and rebuild a few times and it's not even a complicated mechanism, but I'm a real amateur so it's all good learning. I could now strip and rebuild this almost in my sleep. Here's a pic of the two 909's stacked while I move things around. It's a mega mini system! The spectrum analyer display on one of them is blurry and needs a replacement LCD screen (same part as on FH-215), which I'm on the lookout for but otherwise a fantastic sounding machine.

Right, I'm off for a tea and a quick flick through the F-770 service manual before I start stripping. Any advice or shortcuts welcome!

A friend of mine has a F-990 that he's restoring, his belts were melted onto the motor, took
a fair bit of work to remove it all. I have read that these are some of the best-sounding decks you can buy, so £5 is a bargain! I'd have snapped that up too!

Good luck with that restoration. However, I think your message goes off topic from this thread, so I'll move to another one.
