Not a boombox but still a find i was very happy with, in its box with unused headphones, brochure, SW and World Radio book, aerial and case. Nice!
I can't make it out in the photo, but be careful with the flexi cable which goes through the hinge. Sony actually modified the design as the original one bent the cable so much it would quickly fail. http://www.tesp.com/SW100FAQ.htm http://www.hccc.org.uk/sonyicfrepair.html I have one of the originals but modified the case (in a similar manner to the second link) so it was like the revised version which had far more space for the cables to pass through Amazing that the SW100E was introduced over twenty years ago. I don't think Sony even make Shortwave radios any longer although you might find a new old stock ICF SW7600GR.
Longman thats some great information thanks, i wonder if there is a way of telling which version i have? It seems an easy mod but to be honest i'm not sure I'll keep hold of it so I may not do it. I'll save the page in case i change my mind though. Its a bloody nice radio for something so small and it tunes impecably.
The later version had a noticeable slot below the display where the ribbon cables pass through. Have a look at the photo on RadioMuseum http://www.radiomuseum.org/r/sony_icf_sw100_icfsw100.html The slot means that the ribbon cable can bend over a much larger bend radius when the lid is shut.
