Sorry I do not have any picture... I forgot to took one while the unit was open. Refer to the attached service manual screen-shot. The clutch mechanism (155) in this corder is right under the take up reel and it also manages the auto-stop. The clutch is driven by an idler (159) connecting the tape-up reel to a pulley (177). In Sony original design the idler was meant to keep the big wheel 155 always rotating so that when the reel stop at the end of the tape it would trigger the auto-stop. As it happens with idler, due to use and age, the rubber is no longer sticky enough so right now it is the idler slipping and acting as clutch further sanding its own surface. My question is, why use an idler an not gears ? Using gears would have been simpler, cheaper and more reliable than a rubber idler. Please note that Sony itself states the idler is not supplied as a spare part (!) On Sony defence, the corder still works fine, it is just the auto-stop that no longer works
