Hi my go to choice for listening to my tapes is my Sony WN-3. Even though its an antique I still get a fair bit of use out of it. My concern is overuse. I want to know when should I lubricate the motors and, well how to. My WM-3 also has no transformer. So I use rechargeable double As. Its no big issue but it'd be cool to get the whole thing 100% functional.

Ps. Is it safe to use PVC electrical tape to hold the wires down? Cuz thats what I did.

You don't need to routinely open the unit and lubricate it regularly. This process can be done every few years when you service your walkman like changing belt.
this is the tape i use for keeping wires attached to the board. It is almost identical to the tape Sony or other manufacturers used on electronic boards
