Hello. I would really need some advice with a walkman. I found a nice Sony wm-f2 walkman and I wish to restored it. I completely dissasembled the mechanism, clean it and lubricate it, changed the gear, belts and pinch roller... and then put it together,... the mechanism is similar to dd series, so it was not such a problem. I also cheched the motor and it runs quietly without any major problems. Then I got to the measurements... I used a 3k tape and and to be honest, I was quite dissapointed... I managed to set the speed 3k +/- 10, but I got a w&f of around 0,5 and can't lower it in any way... I rechecked both flywheels and relube them... checked the belt, that it is not to tight and still the same value. I used a main gear 2 parts version and not one part version which I use in some dd walkman. Radio works, fwd and rew also works ok, only the play is not performing as it should. To be honest, I really like this model, but I'm out of ideas how to solve the problem... Does anybody have any ideas what else can I check or do, to lower the w&f? Any help would be appreciated.
Did you get the parts from a good source? Sometimes NOS can get a little hard and new might not fit just right, it can be really frustrating.
Sorry for my late response. 'Mister X' thanks for the suggestion, but the parts were ordered from FixYourAudio, so I assume there should be no quality issues. Also what did you think by NOS? In my opinion, I don't see a problem with the mechanism, which is quite similar to the dd models, so it's not that unfamiliar to me. I'm more inclined to think it's related to the electronics. I checked the circuit that regulates the speed, and I tried replacing the chip and the issue is the same. Then I started to investigate a little more the part around the three transistors and consequently the voltage regulation of the motor (picture attached). The voltages indicated in the manual are within normal limits, the only thing that bothers me is: - the voltage on one side of the motor (green arrow) is stable - that seems ok; - the voltage on the other side of the motor (red arrow) changes when you regulate a trimmer, which is fine... but there is a slight voltage fluctuation/ripple, which I don't really like. This may be completely normal, but I'm not sure and I don't have anything to compare it to. I'm waiting for a WM-5 walkam, which is similar, and when I get it, I'll compare it. I also ordered the capacitors that are in this part and I'll replace them, but then I'll see what happens.
