Used to have one of these until a couple of years ago when I donated it to a friend in need of some special memories!! Been looking around for another one but lately they have been offered on eBay by sellers on the gear or worse I mean £200 for a RC-656LB - Come on guys be serious......... Anyway, this very dirty one arrived yesterday with the record/play bar & most switches dirty (Usual scenario with these!) It was obvious that no one had opened her up before, all the screws needed that quick 'Crack' with the screwdriver before undoing & internal wiring completely undisturbed - Always a welcome sign This machine has a flat drive belt & a counter belt, amazingly there was nothing wrong with either one......I had planned to replace both but there simply wasn't any need!! All switches & controls cleaned with Servisol then heads & roller cleaned & polished up before cleaning the casework which was soaked in foam cleaner & left to let it dissolve the crud all over it! As usual with this era of JVC's the motor speed & head azimuth were still spot on, so all that was left to do was listen to her - & I had forgotten how mellow & detailed these stereo's are Very nice machines & I will be keeping hold of this one!! @nickeccles You are The MAN!!! Awesome resto job, as always! I would have had to hide my airbrush, this baby just asks to be "beautified" by a lipstick, but you manage to see the original beauty!

Yeah these are great boxes, they are built so well and sound far better than expected. Same as you mine arrived fully working and not needing a belt change which is very rare, I have no idea why this is peculiar to these. Great find.
