I am a bit of an 80's geek, I love a few of the old electronics.
I have been looking at buying a walkman to use on show in my barbers and for the occasional use. I am no expert and am the sort of person that likes what I like. I am not bothered about value, future value or rarity.
But annoyingly I did not know the value of certain walkmans and I haloen to like the wm-20 now colour I would prefer the pink or possibly the silver. How much do you think I should expect to pay (In UK Pounds) for one in perfect working order, serviced. And in very nice cosmetic condition? Any help would be appriciated thanks

    welcome aboard
There is no fixed exact price for any walkman or vintage electronics. My suggestion is based on monitoring portable vintage electronics sold for the last few years. The prices below are in US dollar.

Sony WM-20 in Silver color : excellent working condition, excellent cosmetic condition without original box and accessories: $250
Sony WM-20 in Silver color : Mint, services with original box and accessories: $ 350

Sony WM-20 in pink : excellent working condition, excellent cosmetic condition without original box and accessories: $325
Sony WM-20 in pink : Mint, serviced with original box and accessories: $ 450

Welcome to the forum, your in luck, I call this time of year "Boombox Season," boomboxes and Walkmans tend to sell a little cheaper, it seems everyone is too busy buying other presents. Good luck in your quest, the WM-20 is a beautiful machine and was ground-breaking when it came out.

Hello and welcome I saw the advert on Ebay ... I would not underestimate that stain of corrosion that for sure was made by the battery acid forgotten inside for quite some time .... If a corroded the internal part of the circuits and gears I don't know how repairable it is ... besides the fact that the acid may have affected the aluminum of the case ...I show you a sample photo of what battery acid can do

Beautiful find! My personal favorite is the Red Wm-102’s. Been very difficult to find them with battery holders, in decent condition and not from eastern block countries…. Anyway the WM-102, WM-30 (10II), and WM-20 are my favorite models! (I own none yet lol). Limping by on a WM100 that I custom printed a battery holder for (no capacitor so tape speed drops significantly as the battery voltage drops)
    Anyway,
    Cheers!

Im interested as well! I don’t have any 10s/20s in my collection yet. In the process of trying to fix two cosmetically mint 102s with a spare that hopefully has all the parts I need.

on a side note one of my 102s has what I believe to be a cold solder joint on the headphone jack. Anyone had luck repairing these without destroying the plastic jack housing?

    cheers

I picked up a WM-10, silver/red, mint condition for $275 CAD last month. All it needed was a belt. Ordered one from Slovakia.

There's lots of them out there, but around $200-$250 USD is fair market value for these.

Though sometimes you can score on Japanese auctions, although any WM-10 I've seen there were not in great shape and not much less by the time it's imported with all the extra fees.

My ebay acquisition was a local transaction from the original owner and she told me the whole story about how she acquired it.
